We are Brian Preston and Bill Benton. We offer low cost demos and simple music composition services to lyricists and poets who desire to have their words set to music. Poet services are also available in the form of recorded professional readings with options for musical backgrounds of original melodies. We also include basic copyright information and links.
With many years of performance, songwriting, and recording studio experience between us, you can rest assured that we are on side of the songwriter. We both are active members of "Songwriters and Poets Critique", a very popular Central Ohio songwriting organization.
We are aware that demo work can be very expensive. Costs can begin at $300.00 and go up into the thousands. For that reason we offer a simple bare bones vocal, with guitar or piano accompaniment, of original music for your lyrics, on CD for $100 per song, plus $5 shipping and handling. (Ohio residents are subject to state sales tax)
Here is how it works:
1. You send us your copyrighted lyrics via E-mail. (see copyright information page) 2. We will screen submissions and only accept those that have structure enough to be put to music. (no free verse please) NOTE, WE DO NOT REWRITE, CRITIQUE, NOR OFFER ANY OPINIONS ON SUBMITTED MATERIAL. WE EXPECT YOU TO ALREADY HAVE DONE YOUR WORK SO WE CAN DO OURS AT A FAIR COST. IN ADDITION YOUR LYRICS SHOULD BE UNDER 5 MINUTES IN LENGTH, BE COMPLETE IN TYPICAL VERSE, CHORUS, BRIDGE FORM AND MUST HAVE A TITLE (please see lyric samples) 3. If your lyrics are accepted, we will notify you within 5 business days, via E-mail. We cannot respond to every submission so if you don't receive an E-mail from us within those 5 days, then we didn't feel your submission was ready to be set to music. 4. Once accepted, we will E-mail you an invoice, payable only via PayPal. (click here to get a free account). If the invoice is not paid within five business days, your submission will be deleted. 5. Once payment has cleared, we will set your lyrics to music using a simple vocal with piano or guitar arrangement and chord symbols. (To keep cost low, no lead sheets will be provided.) 6. Within an additional 5 business days we will mail your song to you via USPS on a labeled CD only. Sorry, no tapes or cassettes. 7. Your song will have no discernable style of vocal or guitar. We attempt to stay generic. This is just an inexpensive way for you to get an idea of what your lyrics could sound like without spending $300 to $600 or more. 8. Each completed song will be accompanied by a certificate stating that this music belongs to you, that we were paid by you to create it, that you own it and we make no further claim. (see your certificate) 9. Because our price is low, we do not offer refunds of any kind. So do your research on us beforehand and if you are not happy with our music or style, by all means please feel free to choose a different company. 10. We only accept lyrics in English.
We have both seen people spend thousands of dollars on demo work for songs that weren't ready yet. For that reason we have been providing this service locally and to S.P.C. members for years, saving them each hundreds of dollars by giving them a simple recording to work with, tweak, critique, and rewrite before paying for a full blown demo.

Most of the samples are more than guitar vocals since that was what they were paying for, some are final studio cuts of music we wrote for various lyricists and poets, but it will give you a taste of the music we compose.
